The EFKF (English For Kids Foundation)
Friday, the 24th of September was the European Day of the Languages. For this occasion there was an EFKF conference in Utrecht. This was held at University College Utrecht.
1. What is EFKF?
The English for Kids Foundation started on 28 September 2007. It is an initiative of a group of people from various professional backgrounds who all agree on the importance of English in international communication. The English for Kids Foundation aims to support the learning of English all over the world, to give children the opportunity to take part in international communication. Since 2007 they have supported projects in Kenya, India, Kosovo, Nicaragua, Romania, Surinam and South Africa. In 2010 they will start new projects in Ukraine, Namibia and Cambodia.
2. Personal experience:
We bicycled to UCU and then we went to the Beach Party Area. We got an introduction about what EFKF is. Then we walked around campus and we made some noise ;). Then each group got a balloon and, on the count of three, we all let them go. It was fun to see all the coloured balloons go up in the air, though too bad about the ones that got stuck in the trees. When we went back inside, the games began. Lots and lots of fun games set up everywhere. Inside, outside, in buildings, everywhere! For each game, you got points. The team who got the most points in the end would get a Skype meeting with some kids in South Africa. But there was a little problem. The computers in South Africa were recently stolen. But we did get a telephone meeting with the director of the school. We had lunch in the cafeteria and at the end of the day we got a little surprise.
It was a nice day. And of course all in English.
